Flooding in Melawi Regency, West Kalimantan Update: Monday, 14 September 2020, 08:21 WIB JAKARTA - Floods occurred again and this time submerged 1,469 houses in Sokan District, Melawi Regency, West Kalimantan, Sunday (13/9). Previously, the Melawi District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) had reported that floods also occurred on Sunday (6/9) and Friday (11/9). The flood disaster resulted in a death of a resident, as many as 1,469 households / 5,369 people were affected and at least 70 families / 300 people were forced to flee. The BPBD Melawi Rapid Reaction Team (TRC) has coordinated with SAR to evacuate residents because many children are trapped at home. Reported water levels vary from 60 to 250 centimeters. The Melawi District Government and village officials have provided assistance and continue to seek assistance in the form of logistics and equipment. The latest conditions were updated until 17.23 WIB, the weather in most parts of Melawi Regency was cloudy and floods were reported to have spread to all districts. Meanwhile, according to weather forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), heavy rains that can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds still have the potential to occur in most areas of West Kalimantan Province until Tuesday (9/15). Apart from West Kalimantan, other regions that have the same weather forecast include Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, West Papua and Papua. Seeing the impact of the disaster triggered by weather factors and the results of weather forecasts from the BMKG, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) requested that regional policy makers be able to mitigate disasters and immediately take necessary actions in relation to disaster risk reduction. JAKARTA - Floods that have occurred since Sunday (13/9) in Melawi Regency, West Kalimantan, have resulted in 720 people being displaced at 10 refugee points. Previously, the Melawi District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) had reported that in the last week floods also occurred on Sunday (6/9) and Friday (11/9).
