Indonesia, Flooding in Malang City (East Java)

Chronology:
On Thursday (4 December), between approximately 14:00 and 16:30 WIB, heavy rainfall occurred in Malang City. The intense rain caused a significant increase in water discharge in the city’s drainage system and rivers. The high water volume overflowed, inundating roads and residential areas. According to monitoring by the Pusdalops, 46 locations were affected by flooding, with water depths ranging from 20 to 150 cm, leaving some residents trapped inside their homes. The flooding also caused damage to several houses.

About 1–2 hours after the rain stopped, floodwaters gradually receded, leaving behind sand and mud deposits on roads and inside homes. The water was estimated to recede between 17:30 and 18:30 WIB. The Rapid Response Unit (URC) of BPBD Malang City was deployed to conduct water pumping and evacuate trapped residents. As of Friday morning (5 December 2025), residual mud deposits still remained and required cleanup.
