Lahar Flood in Magelang Regency, Central Java Province

➢ Chronology:
● Heavy rainfall over the summit of Mount Merapi and surrounding areas on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, from midday to late afternoon, led to a significant increase in water discharge in several rivers originating from Mount Merapi. These conditions triggered lahar flooding, carrying volcanic materials such as sand, rocks, and mud downstream.

● At approximately 16:30 WIB (UTC+7), the Senowo River experienced a rapid rise in water level accompanied by volcanic debris, including sand, rocks, and mud. At the time, community activities were ongoing near the riverbanks. The sudden lahar flow swept away several individuals in the affected areas of Paten Village and Krinjing Village.
