Indonesia, Flooding in Boalemo (Gorontalo)

Gorontalo Province, heavy rain caused the Harapan Village River to overflow and submerge three sub-districts in Boalemo Regency, Friday (11/4). The Boalemo Regency BPBD recorded that 477 houses, eight livestock, four places of worship, one health facility, three educational facilities and two public facilities were affected and one bridge was broken. The Boalemo Regency BPBD reported that some areas were still inundated with water levels of around 30 centimeters.

A total of 572 houses were affected by flooding in Boalemo Regency, Gorontalo Province, on Friday (11/4). This incident was triggered by high intensity rain at 16.00 WITA which caused the river to overflow and inundate residents' settlements.

The affected locations are spread across three sub-districts, namely Wonosari Sub-district, Paguyaman Sub-district and Dulupi Sub-district. It was reported that 557 families / 1,266 people were affected by this incident.

A temporary rapid assessment noted that the flood affected four places of worship, one health facility, three educational facilities and two public facilities. In addition, there was a bridge that was broken due to the heavy flood.

The local BPBD together with other joint teams immediately went to the location to carry out emergency handling. Efforts to accelerate handling were also carried out by conducting further coordination between agencies as a handling effort.

Based on visual monitoring in the field, the flood was reported to have receded on Saturday (12/4). Residents worked together to clean up the mud material carried during the flood.

Referring to the BMKG weather forecast for the next three days (14/4) for the Boalemo Regency area, there is still potential for light to moderate rain. In this regard, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) appealed to residents to increase preparedness and vigilance. Meanwhile, for residents who live near cliff slopes and riverbanks, regularly monitor the condition of the soil around the house and the water discharge around the river flow. Residents are also asked to carry out independent evacuation if it rains continuously for two hours or more.
