Indonesia, Flooding and Landslide in Bengkayang (West Kalimantan)

➢ Chronology: Triggered by heavy rain that occurred in the Bengkayang city area on January 4 2024 starting at 15:00 WIT, causing the Sebalo river to overflow, which the day before had also overflowed, resulting in flash floods with water levels reaching 2 meters with strong currents and submerging sections of Jalan Swadaya , Jalan Sadar, Jalan Blangko.

➢ Location:
● Bengkayang District
● Sungai Betung District

➢ Casualties:
● 60 families affected

➢ Material Losses:
● 60 housing units affected

➢ Effort:
● Until now, joint evacuations are still being carried out by the Bengkayang Regency BPBD, Bengkayang Police, TNI, BPKS, and in collaboration with the Bengkayang Community Health Center, to handle refugees immediately
● Command posts, refugee tents are being set up and public kitchens are being prepared
● Searches and evacuations are still ongoing by utilizing various media to network information about residents who have not yet been evacuated.

➢ Current Conditions:
● Currently residents are taking refuge in their families, and the Bengkayang Regency BPBD has created a post in front of the Pancasila building (Jalan Ngura)
● The water has receded now but there is still a possibility that it will overflow again
