Description

National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) reported a flash flood in Songjuruh District, Banyuwangi Regency on 22 June 2018, 08.40 local time. The water depth was reported around 1.5 meters travelling at a high speed, and left mud debris of around 1 meter. Flash Flood was caused by extreme rainfall in Mount Raung area. In total, 415 houses were damaged (23 heavily damaged, 167 houses moderate damage and 225 light damage). Regional road between Jember and Banyuwangi regencies were also cut off. Around 1,721 hectares of agricultural areas were also destroyed. Local BPBD, government agencies, Indonesian Army, Police and non-government organizations are on the ground to support the affected people. Banyuwangi Regent has declared status of emergency for seven days, to speed up calamity fund disbursement. BPBD Banyuwangi Regency also mobilized 12 dump trucks and four excavators to clear remaining debris.
