Torrential rains and increased river levels have caused monsoons floods in some parts of Myanmar. In Kachin State, according to the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), more than 6200 people have been evacuated to 39 sites in Myitkyina, Bhamo, and Shwegu townships as of 13 July 2019. The Kachin State DDM has provided cash assistance and other relief items to the evacuated families in Myitkyina Town. These photos have been taken today during a rapid assessment mission by UN agencies, international, and national NGOs to four evacuation sites in Myitkyina Town.

Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, and Minbya townships of Rakhine State, and Belin Township of Mon State are reportedly affected by floods with evacuations in some locations.
In Mrauk-U Town, Rakhine State, a site hosting more than 370 people displaced by fighting between the Myanmar Military and Arakan Army has reportedly been inundated. UN and INGO parteners stand ready to support the Rakhine State authorities to respond to the needs of those affected by floods if needed. In Belin Town, Mon State, DDM reported that more than 680 people were displaced by the floods over the past few days and evacuated to five sites where authorities provided assistance. As of July, all of them have been able to return to their homes according to the DDM in Mon State.

In all these locations, the authorities, the Myanmar Red Cross Society, civil society organizations and private donors are responding to the immediate needs of those affected or displaced by floods. In Sagaing Region where the Chindwin River has almost reached its danger level, DDM has taken preparedness measures including the pre-positioning of relief items, the preparation of evacuation sites and search and rescue activities.
